SPORTSCENE x NIKE
Background
Sportscene and Nike commissioned Bushkoppies to develop content and digital assets for a campaign and live initiative celebrating dance as a sport. Rooted in South African youth culture, the project sought to reframe dance not only as an expressive art form, but as a disciplined, athletic practice deserving of the same recognition as traditional sports.
The campaign highlighted movement, stamina, training, and individuality — positioning dancers as elite athletes within their own arena.
Objective
The objective was to elevate dance culture within the sports and lifestyle space, authentically connecting with youth audiences while reinforcing Nike and Sportscene’s commitment to performance, self-expression, and cultural progression. The content needed to live seamlessly across digital platforms and a live event environment, inspiring participation and pride within the dance community.
EXECUTION
Bushkoppies produced a suite of dynamic visual assets capturing dancers in motion — focusing on physicality, intensity, and personal style. The creative approach blended sport-style performance storytelling with the raw energy of street and club dance culture, treating dancers with the same cinematic respect afforded to professional athletes.
Each visual emphasised power, form, and endurance, reinforcing the idea that dance demands both skill and athletic excellence.
DISTRIBUTION
The content was rolled out across the Sportscene app and digital platforms, alongside on-ground visuals and activations at the live event. The integrated approach ensured strong cultural resonance, sustained engagement, and a clear message: dance is not adjacent to sport — it is sport.
